Tanzania is one of the biggest gold producers in Africa. It exports diamonds and the precious stone tanzanite. Despite its economic growth Tanzania is one of the poorest countries on earth. Two thirds of the population live and work on the land in the agriculture sector. Normal levels of precipitation are sufficient to make the country self sufficient in food production, however the ever more frequent periods of drought make life hard for the population The country’s main exports are gold, coffee, tea, wool and tobacco.
